Launch Out – Don’t Wait

After the holiday weekend, it’s hard to get back to blogging.  As I was reading a few other blogs this morning, I came across a post that was a reminder that we do not need to keep ourselves in a rut.  If I could remember which one it was, I would give them credit.

The gist of the post was that someone was disappointed that they were not getting laid off!  They had plans to become self employed when they were laid off.  But the fact that now they have a job changed all that.  Six months ago I couldn’t imagine that either.

The thought of losing a steady job and a guaranteed paycheck makes people shudder.  Why don’t people just move on? Could it be plain old procrastination, or do people feel that they wouldn’t succeed even if they were given the blueprint for success? Many inventors have tried and failed many times before they finally came up with the finished product. You’ve got to try!

If you are serious about taking the reigns of your own life, I challenge you to do it.  Even if you start small, work a plan and test the waters.  Then when the time is right, you pull the trigger and move forward.  If you really think about it, working for someone else puts them in control of your life!  “You work for me, and I’ll give you a paycheck.  If you don’t do it right, you can find another job.”  So what do we do but go and do our best because that’s what our motivation is, but we also do it for the check.  Sure there are rules of the self employment game, but you get to set them.

Lest you think I’m financially set for life, I’m not.  Since I’ve been laid off I’m working short term contracts for various companies.  But I couldn’t be happier.

Who would ever wish unmployement on themselves! I say if they really wanted to take that plunge they’d do it on their own! But youre right, maybe its procrastination.
